The beautiful sea and sand, and the feeling of cutting through the wind—it's the best. Whenever we stay on Taketomi Island, we always go out on the sabani. Listening to the boatman's stories about island life while we sail is another joy. Lately I think we might be riding the sabani just to see him.

My days are consumed by work, but every few years, when I feel the need to reset, I go to Taketomi Island. Closing my eyes and giving myself over to the sabani is a special moment that makes me forget everyday life. The scenery is different every time, so no matter how often I visit, there's always something new to move me.

We went as a family of four with our 4-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. It all started with our daughter's request to ride "Moana's boat"—but the sabani caught the wind and surged ahead far more than we imagined. It felt wonderful. The best!

It's really surreal to take this boat out on the glass-like sea and stand on a sandbar. The operator speaks excellent English and is really chill. This was a highlight of my time in Ishigaki.
